About Brakeout Auto
What is Brakeout Auto?
Brakeout Auto is a State College, PA vehicle care company offering six specialized services: paint protection film (PPF), auto detailing, ceramic coating, window tinting, vinyl wraps and windshield protection film. Founded in 2023 by brothers Sullivan and Everett Barter, we run one trusted team out of a dedicated State College shop and carry 500+ five-star reviews.
What services does Brakeout Auto offer?
We offer paint protection film, auto detailing, ceramic coating, window tinting, vinyl wraps, windshield protection film and paint correction. Each service has its own dedicated site with the full detail, but they're all delivered by the same certified team at our State College location.
Where is Brakeout Auto located?
We're located at 143 Hawbaker Industrial Dr, Suite 104, State College, PA 16803. Paint protection film, windshield protection film, window tinting, vinyl wraps and most ceramic coatings are performed in our dedicated, climate-controlled bay, which is the clean, temperature-controlled environment those finishes require. Detailing is also available mobile, so we can come to you.
What areas do you serve?
We serve State College and the surrounding Centre County communities, including Bellefonte, Boalsburg, Port Matilda, Centre Hall, Pleasant Gap, Philipsburg, Lemont and more. Customers regularly travel to our State College shop from across the region.
What are your hours?
We're open 24/7, seven days a week. We schedule work by appointment so we can give each vehicle the time it needs.

Paint Protection Film (PPF)
What is paint protection film (PPF)?
Paint protection film, sometimes called a clear bra, is a virtually invisible urethane film applied over your vehicle's paint. It absorbs the impact of rock chips, road debris and scratches so your paint doesn't, and it has a self-healing top coat that lets light swirls disappear with heat.
Explore our PPF siteDoes PPF actually protect against rock chips and road rash?
Yes. PPF is specifically engineered to take the abuse that would otherwise chip and scratch your paint: highway debris, gravel, sand and road rash. It's the most effective physical protection available for high-impact areas like the hood, fenders and bumper.
How long does PPF last?
Quality self-healing film typically lasts around ten years, and our installs are backed by up to a 10 year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking and lifting. Longevity depends on the film, the install quality and how the vehicle is cared for.
What coverage options are available?
Options range from partial and full-front coverage (hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, headlights) to track packages and full-body coverage where every painted panel is wrapped. We help you choose based on how and where you drive.
See PPF coverage optionsIs PPF worth it?
For most drivers who want to preserve their paint and resale value, yes. PPF prevents the chips and scratches that permanently damage paint and are expensive to repaint. On new, leased or high-value vehicles it's one of the best protection investments you can make.
Ceramic Coating
What is a ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your paint to form a durable, transparent protective layer. It locks in a deep, high-gloss finish, adds hydrophobic (water-repelling) properties and makes the vehicle far easier to keep clean.
Explore our ceramic coating siteHow long does a ceramic coating last?
A professionally applied ceramic coating generally lasts several years, depending on the product tier, how the vehicle is stored and how it's maintained. We're certified System X installers and apply coatings to the manufacturer's professional standard.
What's the difference between ceramic coating and wax?
Wax is a temporary sacrificial layer that lasts weeks to a few months. A ceramic coating chemically bonds to the paint and lasts years, offering much stronger protection, better gloss and easier washing. Coating is the long-term upgrade over repeated waxing.
Do I need paint correction before a ceramic coating?
Usually, yes. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so we correct swirls, scratches and oxidation first. That way the coating seals in a clear, glossy finish rather than sealing in existing defects.
Do you guarantee your ceramic coating work?
Yes. Our ceramic coating work is backed by a 60-day money-back guarantee, on top of the manufacturer warranty that comes with your package, which runs from three years up to lifetime depending on the tier you choose. If the finish isn't right, tell us and we'll make it right.
Window Tinting
What are the benefits of window tinting?
Quality window tint blocks up to 99% of harmful UV rays, rejects heat to keep your interior cooler, cuts glare for a safer drive, adds privacy and protects your upholstery from fading. It also sharpens your vehicle's overall look.
Learn about window tintingWhat tint levels are legal in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania regulates how much light must pass through your windows, with different rules for the windshield versus the side and rear windows. We walk you through compliant options before we start so your tint looks great and stays within the law.
How long does window tint take to install and cure?
Most vehicles are completed in a few hours. After install, the film needs a short curing period, a few days to a couple of weeks depending on weather, during which you may notice slight haziness that clears as it dries. We'll give you exact care instructions.
Do you use quality film for tinting?
Yes. As certified 3M installers, we use premium films backed by a manufacturer warranty against bubbling, peeling and excessive fading. We'll recommend the right film and shade for your goals.
Vinyl Wraps
What is a vinyl wrap?
A vinyl wrap is a premium film applied over your vehicle's panels to change its color or finish (gloss, satin, matte or specialty looks) without repainting. We also do partial wraps, roofs, mirrors, accents, chrome delete and custom graphics.
Learn about vinyl wrapsWill a vinyl wrap damage my paint?
No. When applied to factory paint in good condition and removed professionally, quality vinyl actually protects the paint underneath from minor abrasion and UV. It's a fully reversible way to change your vehicle's look.
How long does a vinyl wrap last?
A professionally installed wrap typically lasts about five to seven years, depending on the film, color and how the vehicle is stored and maintained. We use premium 3M wrap films for durability.
Can you wrap just part of my vehicle?
Absolutely. In addition to full color-change wraps, we do partial wraps, roofs, hoods, mirrors, trim, chrome delete and custom graphics or commercial branding.
Auto Detailing & Paint Correction
What's included in an auto detail?
A full detail covers a deep interior clean (vacuum, shampoo and steam of carpets and seats, cleaning of all surfaces and glass) plus an exterior hand wash, wheel and tire care, and protection. Packages range from maintenance cleans to complete interior-and-exterior details.
Explore our detailing siteWhat's the difference between detailing and a car wash?
A car wash is a quick automated exterior rinse. Detailing is a hands-on, multi-hour service that deep-cleans and protects both the interior and exterior by hand, addressing swirls, stains and contamination that an automated tunnel can't touch.
What is paint correction?
Paint correction is a multi-step machine-polishing process that removes swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation and haze to restore your paint's clarity and gloss. We also perform it before a ceramic coating or PPF so flaws aren't sealed in.
How often should I have my vehicle detailed?
For most drivers, a full detail every three to four months keeps a vehicle in great shape, with lighter maintenance cleans in between. If you have kids, pets, a long commute or park outside, more frequent detailing helps.
How long does a detail take?
On average, an exterior detail takes two to three hours, an interior detail two to five hours, and a full interior-and-exterior detail three to six hours. Vehicle size and condition move those numbers either way, so we give you a firm timeframe with your quote rather than a guess.
Can you remove pet hair, stains and odors?
Yes. Interior detailing includes targeted pet hair removal, spill and stain extraction, and odor reduction. A heavily soiled interior sometimes needs extra time or a premium package, and we'll tell you that when we quote rather than after the work is done.
Do you offer a monthly maintenance plan?
Yes. Monthly Maintenance starts at $250 a month for a recurring interior and exterior detail, after an initial full detail brings the vehicle up to standard. Our Priority Maintenance Program starts at $2,500 for a pre-paid year, which includes that upfront full detail, two months free, and priority scheduling with pick-up and drop-off.
See detailing packagesWhat products do you use?
We use biodegradable, vehicle-safe products for washing and detailing, and manufacturer-specified materials for the finishes we're certified in: 3M film for paint protection, window tint and vinyl, and System X for ceramic coatings.
Certifications, Warranty & Pricing
Are Brakeout Auto's installers certified?
Yes. We are certified 3M installers for paint protection film, window tint and vinyl, and certified System X installers for ceramic coating, with team training completed through EPD in Charleston, South Carolina.
What awards and ratings does Brakeout Auto have?
Brakeout Auto was voted #1 Best Auto Detailing in Centre County's Favorites 2025 (up from #2 in 2024), has earned multiple Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite awards, holds an A rating from the Better Business Bureau, and carries 500+ five-star reviews at a 5.0 average.
Do you offer warranties on your work?
Yes. Our paint protection film is backed by up to a 10 year manufacturer warranty, and our window films and ceramic coatings carry manufacturer warranties as well. We'll go over the specific coverage for your chosen product before we begin.
How much do your services cost?
Pricing depends on the service, your vehicle's size and its condition. We provide a clear, up-front quote before any work begins, no surprises. Request a free quote and we'll give you an honest recommendation for your goals and budget.
Get a free quoteWhy choose Brakeout Auto over a national chain?
You get local, hands-on owners whose names and reputations are attached to every job, a certified team, and one trusted shop for all six services rather than being handed off. That accountability is a big reason we became Centre County's #1-voted shop.
How soon can I wash my vehicle after service?
It depends on the service. After detailing or window tint you can generally wash normally (tint just needs its short curing period first). After a fresh ceramic coating, wait about a week before washing so it fully cures. We provide exact aftercare instructions for whatever we install.
Is Brakeout Auto licensed and insured?
Yes. Brakeout Auto Detailing, LLC is fully licensed and insured, and every employee is background checked before they are trusted with a customer vehicle.
Who will be working on my vehicle?
Brakeout Auto's own employees, never subcontractors. Every technician is trained in-house by co-owner Everett Barter before working on a customer vehicle, and we run a skill-tier system from Level 0 in training up to Level 3 senior technician so each job is matched to the right person. Both owners still work on vehicles themselves.
Meet the teamDoes Brakeout Auto offer a satisfaction guarantee?
Yes. Every service is backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee. If something isn't right, tell us and we'll make it right.
Why does the same service cost more on some vehicles?
Price follows the work involved. A large truck, SUV or van has considerably more surface area than a compact car, and a heavily soiled or neglected vehicle takes longer than a well-kept one. Rather than quote a flat rate and pad it, we quote on your vehicle's actual size and condition.
Booking, Drop-Off & Mobile Service
Do you take walk-ins, or is it appointment only?
We work strictly by appointment, and we're open 24/7. Every vehicle gets a dedicated time slot and our full attention, so there's no waiting in line and no rushed work. You can book online any time, request a free quote, or call or text (814) 424-5367.
Get a free quoteDo you really come to my home or office?
For detailing, yes. We run mobile detailing across State College and the surrounding Centre County towns and can come to your home, office or apartment. Paint protection film, windshield protection film, window tinting, vinyl wraps and most ceramic coatings are shop-only, because those finishes need a dust-free, climate-controlled bay to cure correctly.
What do you need from me for a mobile detail?
Access to water and electricity at your location. We carry 100-foot water hoses and 200-foot extension cords, so a standard outdoor spigot and outlet are usually all it takes.
What if I don't have water or electricity where I park?
Then bring the vehicle to us instead. Our shop is at 143 Hawbaker Industrial Dr, Suite 104, State College, PA 16803, with free parking directly out front and no meters or permits to deal with.
Directions & hoursHow much space do you need to detail my vehicle?
A standard driveway, parking spot or garage bay with room to open every door and walk around the vehicle is enough. A shaded or covered spot is ideal, since direct sun makes products flash off before they can be worked properly.
Do I need to be there during the detail?
No. We only need you at the start to provide access and at the end to look the vehicle over with us. You're welcome to stay, but most customers carry on with their day.
